Traffic Information

Our car rental in Budapest desk at the airport is located in the arrivals hall of Terminal 2B and the airport is just thirty minutes drive from the city centre on Route 4. Our Budapest Váci Road branch can be reached from the city centre by either Metro or bus. Take Metro line 3 until the Gyöngyösi Utca station or jump on bus number 105.

Budapest is a very large city that spreads out along both sides of the River Danube so having a Sat Nav will make sure you do not get lost and help you avoid areas of traffic congestion. On several major streets in the city centre turning left is not permitted, you will need to go on to the next junction and return. As Budapest is the capital city it enjoys good road links with the rest of the country.

Much of Budapest has metered on street parking which is charged during the day and very often free in the evenings. Charges rise the closer you get to the historic districts. The city also has several 24-hour multistorey car parks.

Much of the city of Budapest is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with so much to see and do. With everything from medieval streets and fortresses to riverside promenades and thermal baths, a car hire in the city is essential so that you do not miss anything. As you drive around you will see the Hungarian National Parliament, the largest parliament building in Europe and home to the Hungarian Crown Jewels. Another stately building worth visiting is the Royal Palace. Step out onto the Savoyai Terrace for the best views of the city. Dozens of museums range from the National Art Gallery to the daunting House of Terror or the quirky Marzipan Museum, a must for sweet-toothed visitors. Younger family members will love Budapest Zoo, one of the oldest in the world, as well as the Children's Railway.

Sixt Tip

Relax in Budapests Spa Baths

One of the big draws in Budapest for locals and visitors alike is its famous thermal baths. Here you can relax, swim or soak in hot mineral waters which are drawn up from below the earth's surface. Thermal baths became so popular in Budapest because the waters are relatively close to the earth's surface and easy to access and also because of Hungary's historic place in the Turkish Ottoman Empire. Whether for leisure or therapeutic use, Budapest has several thermal baths housed in large, historic complexes which are themselves visitor attractions. Many spa hotels also have their own baths.

Sightseeing Destinations

When the locals want to escape the bustle of the city one of the first places they head is to Lake Balaton with its stunning scenery, swimming, cycling and wine-tasting. • From Budapest Airport: 33 miles, about 40 minutes
  • From our Váci Road branch: 12.5 miles, about 25 minutes

I had a fantastic experience with Sixt, and I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the lady who handled our rental arrangement. She was incredibly helpful, friendly, and professional. The car provided was in excellent condition, and we had no issues at all. I would especially like to highlight her exceptional service when we encountered a situation with the different car rental company (which we already paid in full). After discovering that we were unable to enter five countries (Kosovo, North Macedonia, Albania, Greece, and Bulgaria), she went above and beyond to offer proactive solutions. She explained that two countries—Kosovo and Albania—were restricted due to the current situation and were not covered by the insurance policy. Her passion for helping us was evident as she not only clarified the restrictions but also advised us on which countries we could enter and suggested alternative travel routes. Thanks to her guidance, we were able to adjust our plans smoothly. Overall, we had a very pleasant experience, and her assistance made our trip much more enjoyable. Please give her the recognition she truly deserves for her outstanding service.

We got a really friendly and emphatic sales manager who helped us throug of the car renting procedure. He didn't speak Hungarian but tried his best to solve our problem. Card didn't work although we had money on it. He was flexible and all time smiling managed to guide us to solve the problem.
